Rev. Paul J. Walther
Rev. Paul J. Walther has served as pastor of United Reformed Church since September 2007.
A life long member of the Reformed Church in America, Rev. Walther grew up in the Hudson Valley town of Wallkill, NY, and is a graduate of Central College (Pella, IA) and New Brunswick Theological Seminary (New Brunswick, NJ).
Ordained in 1974, Pastor Paul begin his ministry with a seventeen year tenure at the Peapack Reformed Church. In 1991 the denomination asked him to be the founding pastor of a yet-to-be established congregation on St. Croix (US Virgin Islands). During his five year tenure on St. Croix the congregation was organized, land was purchased and a building program was begun! Rev. Walther was then called to The Church in Brielle (NJ) and after eleven years of service was offered an opportunity to serve United.
After 34 years of parish ministry Rev. Walther is deeply honored to serve the United Reformed Church. URC is a highly respected congregation with a long and rich tradition of worship, music, and social ministry. Many local ministries were 'born' through the generous support of the congregation and have continued to flourish as essential components of the Somerville community. The social ministry of United continues unabated and in the last calendar year 20 different community organization looked to the church for support.
Rev. Walther enjoys classical music, cooking and - most of all - being with people! He has been married for thirty-one years to Debby. They have one child, Molly, who lives and works in Manhattan.
Since its organization in 1699 God has blessed countless lives through the ministry of United Reformed Church.
Please accept this invitation to worship with the congregation on Sundays at 10 a.m. A warm welcome awaits you - as well as a blessing from God!
