Acolytes are needed! United Reformed Church needs young people to light the candles at the beginning of the service on Sunday and then extinguish them at the end. This is a great way for your child to serve the church.
DO YOU SEW? Worship Committee is looking for members or friends who are would be willing to sew for upcoming events here at United. Costumes will be needed and if you can help with this ministry, please give Ruth Reader (908) 823-9402 or the church office a call.
DO YOU HAVE A CONCERN? Do you have a concern, please let the Church Administrator, Sharon Thompson know. We want to remember them in our prayers and mention their name in the “In Your Prayers” reminders for the week in our Sunday bulletin.
SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS
The Sunday school students have been taking on the role of “teacher” these past few weeks. The students each picked a children’s version of a few familiar Bible stories that they read at home and then taught the class what happen in the story the following Sunday. The stories included favorites such as Noah and the Ark, David and Goliath, The Christmas Story, The 23rd Psalm, The Exodus of the Israelites and the Story of Moses. It is always fun to hear the interpretation through the eyes of a child.
We also completed a few of our traditional activities that we share with our church family each year. During this time of Thanksgiving, it is good to reflect on our many blessings but the children have focused on who we are giving thanks to. We incorporated Bible verses that gave thanks to God into the homemade cards that were handed out to the congregation. They also baked and assembled, with the help of Carol Barry and Linda Hayes, baskets full of goodies. The baskets were shared with church members who are in our thoughts and prayers. Many exciting activities are in the works as we start our Advent Season.
CONFIRMATION AND YOUTH GROUP UPDATE
The URC Youth Group has been busy this year reaching out to others. In October, the young people shared their baking skills with the congregations as they hosted Coffee Hour following Church. The table was full with their cookies and cakes and the milk container was always full with this attentive group. Their serving continued as the youth group gave up a portion of their day off of school to help sort food at the FoodBank. The nine young people made short work of separating the foods into the proper containers and eliminating any of the expired food. The group then spent time together enjoying pizza and discussing fun future activities. The serving did not end there. On November 20th the youth group provided assistance at the wonderful Harp and Flute concert held in Fellowship Hall. Some of the group helped with set up and others served the sandwiches and dessert. The next youth group event will be a fundraiser. At the Stars and Promises Concert on December 9th, the URC youth group will be selling cookies and beverages during the intermission. Please come and support the youth of our church

Clip-on name badges are now available, in alphabetical order by last name, at the double doors entering Fellowship Hall. Please make an effort to wear your badge during Fellowship Hour, depositing your badge in either the alphabetical holders or the box by the outside door when leaving. If you wear your badge home by mistake, try to remember to return with it the next Sunday. Name badges will be especially important when guests are in attendance. If you bring a guest for coffee, please have him/her fill out a temporary badge – a pen and blank stick-on badges are located in the bottom slot. Your cooperation will be appreciated..

PARISH LIFE COMMITTEE
What are the responsibilities of the Parish Life Committee? There are three main areas: Planning activities to enhance the social life of the church; providing for the emergency needs of congregants; developing and implementing a strategy for incorporating and assimilating new members into the life of the church.
The committee currently has 10 members and we are working hard to meet our responsibilities, but we would like more members to bring new/fresh ideas, as well as assist with some of our responsibilities. If you are interested in joining the Parish Life Committee or if you have ideas you’d like the committee to consider, please contact Jane Huck at 908/725-0233 or janehuck@msn.com.
The Parish Life Committee meets on the first Tuesday of the month; however, they will meet on Tuesday, January 10th at 7:30 p.m. to undecorate the Christmas tree in Fellowship Hall. Would you like to help with this quick and easy task? Come join us!
